| Breaking News |  | Friday, April 4th, 2003: Phillies Deal Bell to Expos for Ayala
The rumor has been going on for a while now, but today it was made official. The Philadelphia Phillies sent 30-year old third baseman David Bell to the Montreal Expos for 25-year old reliever Luis Ayala.
Officials from both teams seem to be pleased with the deal.
Career-to-date Bell has rung up a .256 average, played in 880 games and collected 162 doubles, 12 triples and 81 home runs.

 | Friday, April 4th, 2003: Oakland Athletics and Astros Agree to Trade
The Oakland Athletics have parted ways with 26-year old catcher Ramon Hernandez, sending him to the Houston Astros for 29-year old reliever Octavio Dotel. The Athletics general manager confirmed the deal in an announcement this morning.
In his career Hernandez has played in 457 games, totaled 349 hits, 71 doubles, no triples and 39 homers. He has hit .247 with 185 RBIs and scored 171 times.
Dotel's career stats shape up like this: In 414 innings, he has struck out 494, walked 184 and saved 25 games, while compiling a 24-19 record and a 3.85 ERA. |
 | Thursday, April 3rd, 2003: Great Stroke! Furcal Gets 6 Hits!
6 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Atlanta's Rafael Furcal had a very special day against the Expos when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 6 hits in 6 at-bats -- and led the Atlanta Braves to a 13-4 win at Turner Field.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Furcal said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
R. Furcal doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off B. Reames in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
